Care Philosophy: I am an endocrinologist with expertise in a wide spectrum of hormonal disorders. My special focus is the evaluation and treatment of patients with osteoporosis, metabolic bone disease and parathyroid, calcium and phosphate disorders. I also care for patients with thyroid, adrenal and pituitary diseases, complicated type 2 diabetes and endocrine disorders in pregnancy. Biography: Dr. Melissa Katz has been at NYPH Weill Medical College since 1992 when she began her fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in the joint program with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Prior to that she completed an internal medicine residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. She graduated from SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine and obtained her bachelor's degree from Yale University. Upon completing her fellowship in 1995, Dr. Katz continued her research on male and female reproductive disorders which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine among other distinguished publications.

Biography: Dr. So-Young Kim currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine and Attending Endocrinologist at the Weill Cornell Medical College. Biography: Dr. Baker is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Attending Endocrinologist at Cornell Medical College in New York. He is a graduate of Emory University College and Medical School. He completed an Internal Medicine residency at New York University and a fellowship in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Baker, who himself has type 1 diabetes, has interests which include disease management through education and lifestyle interventions, prevention of type 1 diabetes, and the impact of diabetes on international health. Dr. Baker is involved in numerous global health diabetes projects, and has founded the non-profit organization "Marjorie's Fund" (www.marjoriesfund.org), a type 1 diabetes global initiative dedicated to education, care, and research of type 1 diabetes in the developing world. Biography: Dr. Sinha specializes in metabolic bone diseases including osteoporosis and parathyroid disorders. She also specializes in obesity and the effects bariatric surgery on the endocrine system. Waitman, M.D. is board certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition.  He works closely with Dr. Louis Aronne, Director of Center for Weight Management and Metabolic Clinical Research. He is the course director for the nutrition curriculum and Weill Cornell Medical College.  He is also the Medical Director for Specialized Nutrition Support New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill-Cornell Medical Center.He attended Boston University, where he received his B.A. in Psychology.  He then attended the Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he received his MD.  He then completed a 3-year residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY.  He was asked to, and accepted, the position of Chief medical resident in the department of internal medicine from 2001-2002. Biography: Dr. Silverberg is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She graduated from Cornell University Medical College and completed Internal Medicine residency at New York Hospital. She came to Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons for an NIH postdoctoral fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism, and is currently co-director of that training program.

Biography: Dr. Susana Ebner is a board certified endocrinologist at Columbia University Medical Center. She is the associate director of the Thyroid Unit and she leads the Thyroid Biopsy Fellows' Clinic. She received her MD from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, and she completed her fellowship in Endocrinology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center under the mentorship of Dr. Lewis Braverman. Biography: Dr. Ausiello is instructor in Medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. He received his undergraduate training at Harvard College and his medical training at Harvard Medical School. He completed three years of house staff training (internship, residency) on the Medical Service at Massachusetts General Hospital followed by a year as a Research Fellow at College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. He completed three years of fellowship training in Endocrinology and Metabolic Disorders at College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. During his fellowship his research focused on growth hormone deficiency. He received an Endocrine Fellows Foundation award to investigate the potential differences between growth hormone and IGF-1 in subjects with growth hormone deficiency. Dr. Ausiello co-authored a chapter in a neurosurgery text book focusing on the pre-operative endocrine management of patients having pituitary surgery. He also co-authored a paper on the post-operative management of patients who have undergone pituitary surgery. He is the primary attending on the in-patient neurosurgical service where he works closely with the fellows caring for patients who have undergone surgery by our neurosurgeon Dr. Jeffrey Bruce. Dr. Ausiello also attends at NewYork-Presbyterian/The Allan Hospital as a private consult for the vascular service with a primary focus on in-patient diabetes management.

Biography: Ethel S. Siris, MD, is the Madeline C. Stabile Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Medicine, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, and the Director of the Toni Stabile Osteoporosis Center of the Columbia University Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, all in New York, New York. She is a graduate of Radcliffe College, Harvard University, and received her medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. An endocrinologist, she works as a clinician, as a clinical investigator and as a medical educator, all in the area of metabolic bone diseases, including osteoporosis and Paget's disease of bone. In her career she has participated in research activities with bisphosphonates, selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMS) and RANKL inhibitors. Dr. Siris served as the Medical Director of NORA, the National Osteoporosis Risk Assessment, a public health initiative and longitudinal study of osteoporosis that included over 200,000 postmenopausal women in the US. Most recently her research activity has focused both on risk factors for osteoporosis and treatment adherence with osteoporosis medications. Dr. Siris is the immediate past president of the National Osteoporosis Foundation and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of both the National Osteoporosis Foundation in the US and the International Osteoporosis Foundation. She is also a member and former vice chair of the Board of Directors of the Paget Foundation for Paget's Disease of Bone and Related Disorders. She has previously served on the Council of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and on the Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee of the US Food and Drug Administration. She has published widely in the medical literature and is co-editor of the book, The Bone and Mineral Manual. Dr. Siris has been interviewed frequently on both television and radio and is often quoted in print media regarding osteoporosis.

She is also Medical Director of the Pediatric Thyroid Center at CUMC and NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. Her expertise includes thyroid disease, metabolic syndrome, glucose metabolism, growth, puberty and disorders of puberty, and fetal programming of adult disease. Dr. Vuguin is an accomplished clinician, researcher, and educator. She is fluent in Spanish and English and empathetic to the medical needs of New York’s Hispanic community. In her leadership role for the Pediatric Thyroid Center, she collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of specialists to care for children and adolescents with thyroid disorders, such as thyroid nodules and papillary thyroid cancer.
